It's the stupid people stupid

Sigh

As Ripley once said, "Did IQs just drop sharply while I was away?". Now I know the answer, yes they did. According to a recent study in my home country, the United Kingdom, one in three kids didn't know chips (fries) are made from potatoes. Bless the little crackers, some of them even thought chips (that's fries to you American's) were from eggs, flour or apples, some even some thought they were made "mosty of fat". Well I guess that last one isn't exactly far from the truth since your average grease laden chip probably isn't far off being mostly fat.

As loyal reader Charlster would point out, what hope is there for us now, if kids don't even know what fries are made from? If the human race continues at this rate in a few generations we'll all end up being out smarted by just a slightly above average IQ pigeon (if the bird flue doesn't get them all first).

There's worse, ask many kids what fish look like and they'll say "they're orange, grainy and rectangle" T_T If at least they said "parallelipipedic"... They might know better if they had the occasion to cook, (I mean not premade meals) but hey, COOKING IS DANGEROUS ! As someone said, to eliminate stupid people, let's remove all the warning labels and let the problem solve itself, I'd be in favor of that. Any animal can figure out that fire burns, and self-discipline is the only one which continues to work when no one's watching. And parents don't have the time to watch over kids anyway, if couples earned enough to live decently and raise their children with a sole salary, maybe kids would fare better. Live decently on one salary ? Hah, what a joke, two aren't enough either. And there's a nanny to pay. What a coincidence. A famous british cook has launched a campaign to encourage british girls to reclaim their kitchen, because cooking has become more a man's pleasure since the activity was seen as degrading to women. Anyone should have at least basic knowledge on how to cook, because it'll come handy sooner or later, so it's better to get aquainted to it as a kid. No human activity is as degrading as saying such and such activities are shameful. Saying girls should refrain from cooking is as stupid as saying they should refrain from taking jobs, and both camps say it's degrading. Well maybe it's letting people choose what they want they find degrading :D

PS: And now, something totally different... There are riots near Paris, people are burning cars, I think they have lots of more interesting things to burn, but anyway, I wonder what your media say about that, the US paper I read seemed quite concerned about that, and also what your reaction is, if any ;)

Hello from NYC,

I don't really know what to say except I am really scared. Not know what chips are made from? My Nanny who grew up in Colchester told me wonderful stories from her childhood about how she would go for fish and chips and how they would wrap them in newpaper.

Honestly the state of the world is a sad thing.

I thought about the posibility of the Avian Flu sorting it all out, or at least "stupid people" who enjoy poultry.

I don't understand the French, why can't they get their country under control?

= )

"I don't understand the French, why can't they get their country under control?"

Maybe because since more people are made criminals by stupid laws aimed at rendering ANYONE bound to jail just in case it would be needed, there are more people in favour of a certain lawlessness, and therefore the supposed control over the population is nothing but a totalitarian dream and a citizen's nightmare. As someone said,, "You can kill a revolutionary but you can't kill the revolution". Too bad our french rebels lack the political and historical culture to really change the course of events. Burning your neighbour's car won't change anything, event hurting cops is useless, they should aim for the political and mediatic nerve centres, as it's done in any third world coup. Because we ARE a banana republic, don't forget chirac was elected with 82% ;)
