Love and Taxes
Or "How I learned to stop worrying and love paying taxes"
I just returned from Berkeley having watched Josh Kornbluth's play "Love and Taxes" which is playing at the Berkeley Repertory Theater until September 14th. This really is a most excellent monologue, certainly on par with those of Spalding Gray and, as my friend said, without the WASP angst.
In "Love and Taxes" Josh tells the tale of his pre-Haiku Tunnel years (which were actually portrayed in his movie "Haiku Tunnel") and those leading up to the release of his movie. He relates to us his marvel of a boss who really loved tax law and how his problems of not being a tax payer went full circle to the point where he was the one who loved taxes - paying taxes! The story is at once entertaining, enlightening and inspirational.
As we left Josh came back to address the audience and announce his formation of an IR-Us movement which is based around the notion that paying taxes is paying "the man" and "the man" is actually YOU. Watch the play, enjoy, understand and learn to love taxes. Don't you just love the smell of 1040s in the morning?
